A clown at a kid’s party, a Broadway show, your friends fighting over the last potato chip–these are all forms of entertainment. Originally a synonym of hospitality, it now means amusement or distraction, usually in the form of a performance. The range extends from an individual choosing their entertainment from a vast array of pre-recorded options; to a banquet adapted for two; to a stadium rock concert geared toward thousands. Entertaiment can also have a serious purpose such as in the case of a ceremony or a political event.
